The original trilogy's point-and-click adventure system served as the basis for the revamped gameplay, with the game now focusing on detailed investigation and interaction with the terrifying apparitions that plague the game's protagonist, David Gordon.

David Gordon didn't know his estranged father very well. But he's surprised when he's summoned to his family's ancient seat in the Scottish Highlands after his father takes his own life there. David doesn't know much about the last weeks of his father's life, but the circumstances of his death seem more than strange. For David, settling the inheritance is just an excuse to find out more about the castle where his father grew up, to meet a family he never knew, and to shed some light on the mysteries surrounding his father's death.
