The game follows on from the first title of the rebooted Medal of Honor series from 2010, which moved the story from World War II to war-torn Afghanistan and introduced members of the elite American Tier 1 units as the main characters.

The new installment of Medal of Honor will once again bring missions inspired by real combat operations. Whether it's rescuing hostages in the Philippines or eliminating pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia, Warfighter will showcase the latest technology to combat modern forms of terrorism. The game was once again created by members of Tier 1 units.

The game will offer an aggressive, rough and authentic gameplay system in which players will taste the daily bread of the best and most disciplined soldiers in the world. The plot of Medal of Honor Warfighter is the personal story of a member of the US Tier 1 units nicknamed Preacher, who returns home to his family after completing secret missions abroad. However, when an explosive called PETN is transported across the state border, Preacher, along with his comrades, is sent into action again to eliminate this threat.
