The TIE Advanced was an experimental TIE fighter, flown primarily by Darth Vader and tailored to his requirements.

It therefore had a high-quality hyperdrive and was not as dependent on the proximity of a transport ship for its missions. In addition to high-quality deflector shields, the TIE Advanced offered efficient propulsion and heavy laser cannons, making it an extremely dangerous and terrifying fighter. Its unmistakable slanted solar panel wings clearly distinguished it from standard TIE machines.
