Description
Dungeon Lords is an original board game for demanding players from the successful Czech board game publisher - Vlád Chvátil.
Have you ever set out with a group of adventurers into underground passages to gain fame, experience, and treasure? And have you ever wondered how difficult it is to build and operate such an underground passageway full of corridors and monsters? No?
So now you can try it. Put yourself in the role of the ruler of the underground, summon your servants, build a network of corridors and rooms, set traps in them, hire monsters, and try to prevent the heroes from conquering and plundering your creation. You will see that from now on you will look at the dark corners of various lairs and their inhabitants in a completely different way! Anyone who has ever played a classic RPG knows this.
A fearless warrior, a wise wizard, and a skilled thief meet in a tavern by the city walls over a mug of beer or wine, and before the night is over, there's an inseparable party ready to rid the world of all evil. And lo and behold, just outside the city, a Dark Lord has taken up residence. He's drilled a mountain of tunnels, populated them with evil creatures, set traps at the entrances, and generally acts dark and suspicious.
Who knows what treasures he hides there! So our heroes will give it another go, and in the morning, as soon as the rooster crows (or at the latest by evening, when he wakes up from his nap), they will set off to conquer the underground and punish the villainous ruler in the name of Good... and of course for some treasures and experience. It is a generally accepted procedure, and every good adventurer will nod in agreement that this is how it should be. And what does the Dark Lord say? Does anyone ask what he has to say about it? The heroes, who have never bothered with real work, have no idea how much effort it takes to build such an underground complex. They have no idea what it is to dig a tunnel in granite rock, how much a quality trap costs these days, how difficult it is to find a qualified and hard-working imp, or how much food the average troll needs.
They have no idea how difficult it is to get a license to operate this business, what regulations govern gold mining, or what benefits their union has extracted from the monsters. The only thing the heroes care about is the amount of experience for a particular monster. And that, as you will admit, is a very one-sided view.
