Description
Transformers is a third-person shooter where players take on the role of one of three Autobots: Optimus Prime, Red Alert, or Hot Shot, who are able to switch between robot and vehicle modes by pressing the triangle button. The game revolves around a collection of Mini-Cons that can be equipped to an Autobot and provide various weapons and abilities. These include providing secondary weapons to their blasters; support items such as glider wings; and status upgrades such as armor enhancements. Up to four can be equipped at a time and, with the exception of static upgrades, can be activated using the shoulder buttons. The primary weapon will always be assigned to R1, and its default firing can be changed by assigning certain Mini-Cons to the button (such as charging and firing blasts by holding and then releasing the button). There is a limit to what Mini-Cons can be equipped with due to power limitations, with more powerful Mini-Cons requiring more power. The more Mini-Cons of the same color are equipped, the stronger the character will become, while also increasing health. This is called "Mini-Con linking". The Mini-Cons do not, for the most part, change the Transformer's aesthetic. [citation needed] The three Autobots have their own Mini-Con partners who, in addition to providing minor fire support, can "Powerlinx" with the player, which strengthens the Autobot at the cost of gradually depleting their health. Despite being based on the Armada series, the game features classic G1 quotes, particularly those from The Transformers: The Movie. Garry Chalk and David Kaye are the only voice actors from the series to appear in the game as Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.
