The filmmaking process is often a constantly changing journey. One such aspect that was changed was the helmet worn by the wizard during The Return of the King. While this initial design was produced and scenes were even filmed, it was ultimately decided that its resemblance to Sauron's own helm might be confusing to viewers. Therefore, it was replaced with the Morgul Lord War Mask seen in the final cut of the film.

The greatest of the Nazgûl was their leader, the Witch-king of Angmar. The former king of Men, once a mortal man lured by the promise of power, he fell under the sway of Sauron until he was little more than an extension of the Dark Lord's presence, his own identity long forgotten.

A formless specter, fear was his greatest weapon, and it was said that he would not fall into the hands of any. For centuries he had served his dark lord, leading a campaign that destroyed Arnor in the north and brought war to Gondor in the south. Not even sealing in a magically protected tomb could contain the Witch-king, who had been summoned from beyond the grave to serve his master once more.
