Battle Partners was released in Japan on January 24, 2025. It was officially revealed during the breaking news presentation on Day 1 of the 2025 Osaka Champion's League, which took place from December 21–22, 2024. A short teaser trailer of the featured cards was revealed on August 18, 2024, during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships.

The expansion marks the return of Trainer's Pokémon, a gameplay mechanic originally introduced in the Gym Heroes expansion.

In Gym Heroes, the owner was introduced to familiar names from the Gym Leaders in the Kanto region (from the original Game Boy Pokémon titles), such as Lt. Surge, Erika, and Brock and Misty, who were also known as Ash Ketchum's traveling companions in the Pokémon animated show. Owner's Pokémon are making a comeback after many years, making Battle Partners quite an exciting set, so let's take a look at all 132 cards!
