New to the EA SPORTS FIFA series and on next-generation consoles is the HyperMotion system, combining two technologies for the first time and significantly improving gameplay.

ADVANCED RECORDING
Xsens kits capture the movement of 22 professional footballers playing at high tempo for the first time. This unparalleled amount of high-quality real-world player movement data is the foundation for individual and team movement in FIFA 22.

MACHINE LEARNING
We ran over 8.7 million frames of advanced match footage through our cutting-edge, patented machine learning algorithm, which can then create new animations in real time to achieve organic football realism across various on-field interactions.

AUTHENTIC TEAM MOVEMENT
A major step forward is the Xsens kits, which we used for the first time to record data from all 22 players playing at high speed. Data captured from every touch, tackle, sprint and challenge is the basis for the largest animation update in FIFA history. With over 4,000 new animations (more than three times as many compared to FIFA 21), we have achieved improved expression for every player in the game and the most realistic player movement in EA SPORTS FIFA history.

ML-FLOW
Our machine learning algorithm is changing the entire system of how animations work in sports video games, bringing greater fluidity and visual realism. Based on over 8.7 million frames from advanced 11-on-11 match footage, the ML – Flow algorithm creates new animations in real time that help players better adjust their stride and running pace before handling the ball or sending a shot more smoothly.

TACTICAL AI
The tactical intelligence of all 22 players has also been improved thanks to the power of the new generation of consoles. Each player can better perceive the formation and movement of teammates and opponents, ensuring a new level of tactical realism. In attack, players can now make up to 6x more decisions per second, so they have better awareness of their surroundings, are smarter when setting up the action and develop greater speed when reacting to loose balls. A reworked defensive AI means teams now work more as a unit, holding formation as they move around the pitch and covering open spaces.

KINETIC AIR COMBATS
Two enhanced player interaction technologies synchronize player animations, increasing the realism and responsiveness of the player’s jumps in the game. Watch defenders and attackers push, pull and slam into each other as they attempt to cross, clear the ball to safety and run for long passes. The result is improved heading quality and a clearer outcome in battles for possession.

BALANCED BALL CONTROL
Updated animations make ball control in FIFA 22 more natural and fluid than ever before. Longer double-tap animations allow for better control in the air, greater agility when handling the ball on the ground, and more power when covering it, giving you new ways to set up play in the attacking half.

HUMANIZATION OF PLAYERS
With advanced 11v11 gameplay, you can look forward to new off-ball animations and player behavior that will help improve the overall believability of the actors on the pitch. Notice how opponents talk, point, and gesture to each other based on the current situation and urgency. Hand in hand with improvements to active movement, this year's edition is the most realistic and immersive in the history of the FIFA series.

NEW GOALKEEPERS
The all-new goalkeeping system makes goalkeepers more intelligent, which will positively affect their ability to stop opponents’ shots and make smarter decisions between the posts. The goalkeeping positional play in FIFA 22 is based on the different styles of goalkeepers around the world, aiming to faithfully emulate the behavior of world-class goalkeepers, including their lightning-fast reflexes.

REAL BALL PHYSICS
Real-world data imported into FIFA 22 takes ball physics to a new level of realism. Tuned parameters including speed, deflection, aerodynamic drag, ground friction and rolling resistance mean every touch, shot, volley, pass or dribble will look and feel real.

EXPLOSIVE SPRINT
A new gameplay feature that changes the dynamics of one-on-one situations, Explosive Sprint gives you greater control over acceleration when dribbling or defending. Lure your opponent out and choose the right moment to break away from defenders at full speed and support your team in the attacking phase.

NEW ATTACK TACTICS
New attacking tactics give you more control over how you want your team to play. Set your team to different styles for each half of the pitch: keep the ball in your own half and quickly establish an attack to penetrate the opposition's half, play straight from penalty area to penalty area, or choose your own unique style.
