Follow the story of former Crusader knight Theoderich von Akenburg, who - after becoming disillusioned by the brutality of war - is called back into action by events set in motion 15 years ago when he and his former brother-in-arms Ulrich von Grevel came across a fragment of an ancient artifact - the Staff of Aaron. A young monk named Malcom appears on Theoderich's doorstep, telling him that the staff contains a power never intended for mortals, and Ulrich becomes obsessed with finding the remaining pieces of the staff and reuniting them. This event could unleash untold evil and suffering upon the world. Theoderich sets out on a quest to find the remaining relics and hide them from Ulrich. The journey takes him across Europe and into the Middle East. Along the way, he meets many other warriors who choose to fight for his cause - from the old veteran Reinhard von Kempten of the Teutonic Knights to the ambitious young mercenary Grimhild Eidottr and her Raven Regiment.
