The Castle brick building kit represents a small castle structure. European castles were built in the 9th and 10th centuries, in the Czech Republic castles were built only from the 12th century. Most castles had their own base from which attacks were launched, but they also served as protection against enemies. Castles were also a symbol of power. City castles were used to control the local population and to control important transport routes. Rural castles were often located near places that were an integral part of life in the village (mills or fertile land). Many castles were originally built of clay and wood, but later these materials were replaced by stone.   From the 18th century onwards, castles were built as part of the Romantic revival of Gothic architecture, not for military purposes. We recommend adding one of the castles or towers from our range to the castle building kit.
