Lighthouse

A lighthouse is a building that serves to navigate ships in treacherous areas. It is usually a tower , at the top of which there is an optical system that sends a beam of light over long distances, thus alerting ships to approaching land or rocks. The lighthouse is shaped like a tower so that it is raised above the sea level and is thus easily visible at greater distances. The light from the lighthouse is visible for distances of tens of kilometers . In earlier times, there was a crew on the lighthouse whose task was to operate the lighthouse's light unit. The oldest building of this type, about which written records have survived, was the lighthouse on the island of Faro . The Romans built about 30 lighthouses in the Mediterranean, on the Atlantic coast, in Spain and also in France.
